Earth Conscious in the Wake of Natural Disaster

 Le Reve is deeply saddened by the ongoing fires spread throughout the Palisades and Eaton. It is a tragic cycle that has persisted throughout California for many years and the rising temps only bring us drier seasons. I'm a Santa Barbara local myself and remember the Thomas fire vividly, my school was shut down to allow fire crews to set up command on the lawn. Smoke laid over our beautiful hills once again just as it has in many other tragedies. It never stops being scary and almost too large to contain but we push forward. 

Le Reve prides itself on being an Earth Conscious business, with our recent award as a Certified Green Business. We would be doing a disservice to our community if we didn't address what's happening and what people like you and I can do to help. 

First, we can only do our part if we understand how wildfires are a natural part of California's history. Indigenous populations in the Western Sierras used fire as a form of brush control, this practice has been brought back by the national parks in order to control and prevent the impact that wildfires can have. Los Angeles is a bustling metropolis that boasts a dense population of people, brush control is simply impossible due to the way that LA is designed. There are simply too many people and not enough support to effectively implement practices that can actually minimize the damage. So? what then. We must turn our gaze to our farming practices, and yes I do mean our wineries as well. Le Reve only does business with companies that utilize eco farming practices. This is important because biodynamic farming works within the natural cycle of seasons. A lot of California's farming practices are based off of quantity and use unnatural habits that deplete our soil of its nutrients and dries out our hills. If it weren't for the gorgeous mountains, our lovely state would be a dry desert. Fires like this will only continue to spread as long as our soil can only sustain desert plants.
