Psoas Self Care Recommendation at Le Reve Organic Spa & Boutique for Optimal Health and Wellness

Self care is an essential part of health and wellness. At le Reve we strive to help promote optimal health and wellness with self care and healthy organic skincare options. There are many types of self care available to you on a regular basis. Recently I have been helping more clients find pain relief and gain knowledge of the psoas muscle functionality. It is a deep muscle, meaning it is under several other layers of muscle and various tissues.

In order to access the muscle pressure is slowly applied to move the intestines and abdominal muscles out of the way. The psoas muscle is the hip hiker; when one lifts their knee to the ceiling (hip flexion) the psoas and the iliacus contract to move the femur upwards.

Though it is used a lot in daily locomotion, the psoas is routinely forgotten when the time to stretch arrives. 

One of the better stretches starts with placing the top of your pointed foot against the wall (the closeness of your knee to the wall will depend on quadricep flexibility). Align the other leg in front of you with the knee being at a 90 degree angle. Slowly press your hips forward in a lunge and try to stay in the stretch for 2 minutes. Switch legs and notice if there is a difference in the distance stretch and how long you are able to hold. 

This is a great stretch for after abdominal exercise or for those looking to find relief in that section of the body.
