Winter is the time of year to treat Hyper-pigmentation

It's cold outside so obviously laying out in the sun is no longer the option. Unless you have on sunscreen of course. If you're not sure what hyper-pigmentation is or how to treat/prevent it, I'm here to tell you.

Hyper-pigmentation is caused by an overproduction of Melanin (pigment in the skin). Melanin is our skin's defense against UV rays, however too much sun creates damage and brown spots or patches appear. Hence hyper-pigmentation.

The key to preventing is simple, use a sunscreen of at least 30, apply every couple hours and always avoid the sun during peak hours, 10-3.

Treating hyper-pigmentation is a true test of patience. It takes months to see a decrease so sticking with your skincare routine is crucial.
Bright Skin Starter Set
Using an exfoliant such as Eminence's Yam & Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, 1-2 weekly helps remove dead skin and increase cell turnover so the already "stained" skin is removed quicker. Certain ingredients such as licorice root or lactic acid aid in decreasing hyper-pigmentation. I recommend a natural alternative to treating especially since hydroquinone is a popular treatment on the market. (The chemical bleaching agent that is a known carcinogen) I strongly advise staying away from such a product especially since it also causes extreme photo-sensitivity.

Eminence has their Bright Skin line and above is a starter kit. With african potato and tara tree gum acting as the melanin inhibitors, its a natural and effective way to treat hyper-pigmentation. In the kit you receive the Bright Skin Cleanser, Bright Skin Masque, Bright Skin Moisture with an spf 30 (yay) and the Bright Skin Booster Serum. Getting regular facials is best to increase desired results. Stop by Le Reve to inquire about the line and our facials.

Have a fabulous weekend!
