The Annual Fiesta “Old Spanish Days” is almost here once again; so I
thought I would take some time today to talk about how this wonderful tradition
came about! Lets start with some of the
background behind this long lasting tradition. The annual Fiesta here in Santa
Barbara is driven by the pride Santa Barbara natives feel for our cities rich
heritage, which traces back to the Spanish founders and from the Spanish, Mexican and North American
pioneers who first settled here and built the city. This annual celebration of
music, color and dance is meant to preserve and perpetuate the Spanish
influence in Santa Barbara’s history while also bringing together our community
once a year to celebrate the beautiful city we live in. The first Old Spanish
Days celebration was held in 1924 and has been upheld ever since which has lead
to the enormous five day full of life celebration that we see now a days. Now
that we have explored some of the roots of this wonderful tradition lets
explore some of the events the annual Fiesta offers. As many of the locals know
Fiesta celebrations do not only take place downtown there are also performances
and plenty of traditional Mexican food, along with many cute stands located at
McKenzie park, as well as Earl Warren show grounds. In addition to the music
and fun to be had downtown at the courthouse, mission, and State Street the Old
Spanish Days celebration also brings the rodeo to Santa Barbara every year.
This event takes place at the Earl Warren Show grounds and is fun for the whole
family. Not only do you get to enjoy the live entertainment provided by the
cowboys and rodeo clowns but there are also various other things to explore as
well. The events that take place at Earl Warren are perfect for families as
there is always many things for the children to do including a petting zoo,
face painting and more! Furthermore every year the city of Santa Barbara holds
an annual parade filled with horses, performers, and of course color and music.
The parade, which is one of the largest equestrian parades in the United
States, is scheduled to take place Friday August 2nd at noon. As you
can see this annual celebration is full of activities and fun for all ages and
is one of the yearly events that makes Santa Barbara so great. Now that you
know all you need to know about this wonderful tradition make sure you’re ready
for all the fun! Le Reve will be open during this week of fun for regular
business hours which are Monday-Friday 10am to 7pm. Call or come by our
