Glowing Skin

Good Morning Everyone! I love waking up to sunshine in the morning! It is the perfect way to start my day.  While getting ready for work this morning it occurred to me that I should share some tips for having radiant skin all the time.  I have been researching herbs and foods that are great for cleansing your systems and I came across this very simple and straight forward book called You Are What You Eat by Dr. Gillian McKeith.

Tips for Healthy Glowing Skin:

  • Drink a LOT of water
  • Include fiber in your diet: fiber aids in clearing the intestinal tract
  • Eat fresh pesticide free fruits and vegetables
  • Learn how to properly combine your food.  Eat protein and carbs at separate meals because the carbohydrates digest quicker than proteins which will cause fermentation if  not properly eaten
  • Incorporate good fats into your diet: Eat whole grains, dark leafy greens, wild salmon, coconut oil, flaxseed oil, and other cold pressed oils
  • First thing in the morning try to have a cup of hot water with lemon to have a mini-cleanse
  • Avoid over consumption of alcohol and caffeine
  • Cut down on unnecessary salt: use sea vegetables or celery seeds as an added flavor
  • Reduce consumption of dairy, red meat, fried foods, and processed foods
  • Apply honey 3x a week to your face and leave it on for 30 min before rinsing with warm water to have soft nourished skin
The importance of what we eat, when we eat, and how we eat is crucial to every part of our body.  Some foods cause our bodies to be stressed.  Remember that hormones do play a part in our skin as well.

Foods that Stress:
  • Sweets
  • Spicy foods
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Red Meat
  • Salty foods
  • Fatty foods
  • Refined and Processed foods (do we really want to meet people just to sit and stuff our faces with non-nutrious food like the picture to the right?)
Foods that De-Stress:
  • Cucumbers
  • Brown Rice
  • Celery
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Algae
  • Cabbage
  • Almonds
  • Berries
  • Asparagus
  • Garlic
  • Avocados
  • Sesame Seeds
Remember to exercise sweat it all out and meditate.  Sweating is sexy for your body, it is a way to release the toxins.  Meditate.  Be at peace with who you are and learn to find your balances.  Be outside.  There is nothing worse then sitting inside all day on a gorgeous day.  (Don't forget the SPF, sunglasses, water, and hat)  Be good to yourself.  Be great to others. And love yourself! Take care of yourself by having special pamper days just for you.  This may be a massage, facial, yoga class, day with your friends, kickboxing, a yummy juice, or a delicious meal at your favorite place.

Happy Week Everyone!
