The importance of exfoliating the body

I just did a body wrap on one of my regular clients, the "Total Body Bliss". I was reminded of the importance of exfoliating the body. This is an amazing treatment that includes warm compresses with essential oils, an herbal nutrient rich mud that nourishes and detoxifies the skin, and an application of rich, softening coconut oil.  All these amazing organic products are made to penetrate and nourish, as well as draw impurities from the skin.  However, what allows them to really be effective and do their job is proper exfoliation. Removing the dry surface skin cells allows nutrients to penetrate and oils and toxins to work their way out to be cleansed. Without exfoliation oils and dry skin remain in the pores causing congestion and blocking the nutrients from entering our skin.

There are different types of exfoliants: granular, enzyme, and natural fruit acids. Jurlique and Eminence have great organic body exfoliants. Jurlique Exfoliating Body Gel contains ground walnut and lactic acid as well as nourishing essential oils.  Eminence "Naseberry Body Lotion" is an exfofoliant and moisturizer in one, which contains a gentle natural fruit acid from the naseberry. The dry body brush is a traditional European technique of lighty brushing the body with a dry brush to help lymphatic drainage, increase circulation, and remove dry skin.
